Transform with Us: See how James regained his confidence—now it’s your turn.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life! My weight loss journey has STARTED, I’ve had my gastric sleeve surgery with the incredible team at @wearetransform
In early 2021 TV personality James ‘Arg’ Argent, most famous for being a core member of the cast of TV programme ‘The Only Way is Essex’ (Towie), decided it was time to undergo weight loss surgery. During lockdown he’d struggled with an excessive eating disorder and had stopped exercising and, having reached 26 stone, doctors had warned him that his weight was now a risk to his life.
Arg said at the time, “I’ve struggled with my weight since I was a teenager – I’ve always gone up and down. It’s not a recent thing, it’s not like I’ve just suddenly put on lots of weight. Now I want to do something about it and get weight loss surgery.
“I can’t maintain my weight — I need help. Nobody I know is trying to stop me from having an op – they know it’s the only way I can lose weight and keep it off.”
After carrying out in-depth research into the weight loss options available to him, Arg chose to have his gastric sleeve surgery with Transform.
To prepare him for his operation, Arg attended a number of consultations with our specialist weight loss team and leading bariatric surgeon Mr Martin Richardson. On April 8th he arrived at our state-of-the-art hospital, Burcot Hall, for his life-changing gastric sleeve procedure.
A gastric sleeve operation removes part of the stomach, creating a ‘sleeve’ that makes it smaller and restricts the amount of food that’s able to be eaten. The part of the stomach that’s removed by the surgeon is also the area that produces an appetite-increasing hormone, so hunger can be reduced significantly too.
Not long after his procedure, James took to Instagram to say:
