Dr Rajwinder Nijjar

Dr. Nijjar earned his medical degree from the University of Birmingham over 20 years ago. He has received extensive training at various NHS University Hospitals across the West Midlands, along with additional experience in heart and lung surgery in Liverpool.

Throughout his career, he developed a strong interest in laparoscopic procedures, leading him to perform most of his surgeries using keyhole techniques.Dr. Nijjar has furthered his expertise in the UK, Europe, Japan, and Australia, gaining specialist training with world-leading surgeons in upper gastrointestinal cancer, anti-reflux surgery, gallbladder surgery, and weight loss surgery.

He is currently the Head of the Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) and Bariatric Surgery Unit at University Hospitals Birmingham, where he has served as a Consultant since 2009.Dr. Nijjar joined The Hospital Group in 2014. He considers education and research integral to his clinical work, contributing to a collaborative study between the University of Birmingham and University College London, which led to a deeper understanding of oesophageal cancer.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nijjar has published several articles and presented his specialist topics nationally and internationally. A dedicated and active Consultant Surgeon, he also holds the position of Senior Academy Tutor at the University of Birmingham, where he is involved in training medical students and future surgeons.
